1 million tons of fish dumped every year

On the BBC news yesterday (25th September) there was a report on E.U. fishing quotas. It is estimated that 1 million tons of fish are dumped - dead - back into the North Sea every year, because of the stupidity of fishing quota legislation. There is no limit on the amount of fish which can be trawled up and killed, but strict limits on the amount of dead fish which can be brought ashore to be sold on. So many tons of dead fish are dumped back into the sea.
The report has been posted online and can be read at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7635668.stm
