On Friday 9th November, we will be having a diwali evening, with a takeaway vegan Indian meal, at the Friends' Meeting-house.

Diwali is a major festival and is very significant in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism - the Festival of Lights. It symbolises the victory of good over evil, and lamps and nightlights are lit as a sign of celebration and hope. Fireworks are also associated with the festival. Diwali begins on 9th November in 2007 and continues for five days. To Hindus and Sikhs it is a celebration of life and a time for family and friends. It is one of the most important and popular Hindu festivals. Diwali is now more of a national festival in India, and can be enjoyed by everyone, and it is widely celebrated in the UK. Hindus, Sikhs and Jains are vegetarians.
